Our speaker is Mark Kuhlberg. Mark is a Full Professor of History at Laurentian University in Sudbury and his expertise is Canada’s forest history.
This talk is based on Mark’s book, which has just won the [American] Forest History Society’s Charles A. Weyerhaeuser Book Award.
Mark has been and continues to act as a historical researcher on several successful First Nation timber claims and has published over two dozen peer-reviewed articles and several books. Mark spent 20 seasons in the treeplanting industry in northern Ontario and Alberta and continues to be actively involved in contemporary forestry issues; he sat for 8 years as a public member on the Council of the Ontario Professional Foresters’ Association. In addition, watching his kids’ sports keeps him busy, biking to school year-round keeps him fit, and being a hockey ref keeps him looking over his shoulder.
